Old Forests are valuable Carbon Sinks

Researchers in Belgium have found that old forests sequester carbon, contradicting the belief that they were carbon neutral. Sebastiaan Luyssaert at the University of Antwerp has shown that these old forests may account for some 10% of the earths carbon sinks.

There will be a Havant Borough Tree Warden meeting on 12 November 6-8pm, at HBC Civic Offices.

Tree Trails in development

Healthy Oak, Jubilee Park, Waterlooville

Tree Wardens in Waterlooville and Hayling Island are in the process of developing new Tree Trails following the success of Emsworth Tree Wardens. It is early days yet, but progress is being made and both teams have had initial meetings. In Waterlooville some locations being considered for the route include Jubilee Park, Park Wood and Queens Enclosure.

The Green City is a relatively new organisation whose philosophy states that “green space does not cost money, but brings profit from a social, economic and environmental point of view“.
