Monterey Pine in Waterlooville

We recently tweeted about the felling of a Monterey Pine in Andrew Crescent, Waterlooville.
Apparently the tree had been inspected by Hampshire County Council in Summer 2013 and following reports of loud cracking during the bad weather in the winter months, another inspection was made in February.

The February inspection revealed a partial failure of a main basal union that created an unacceptable risk that required work to be done.

Crown reduction was not possible as such work would have created signifcant wounds and a large amount of the crown would have been removed, as a result it was thought that the tree wouldn't have survived.

The only option was to remove the tree.

The council is currently considering replanting in the next plant season and we should have news about this when information is available.
